Benjamin Douglas “Twin” Herron, 56 passed away on August 11, 2023 doing what he enjoyed most, working. He was the husband of Sherry Herron with whom he shared 33 years of marriage.

This native Savannahian was born December 17, 1966. Doug was not alone, his twin brother Ben Junior who entered this world a few minutes prior. He was the son of Ben Herron Sr (Sylvania, GA), and Lula Mae (Wiggins) Herron (Statesboro, GA). Doug was the product of the EOA Headstart and Wesley Programs. He was a graduate of Herschel V. Jenkins High School and attended Savannah State University where he met the love of his life, Sherry Carter (Herron).

Doug started his work journey early in life working for the City of Savannah SEDA program which taught him job employment skills and provided a formalized work experience. He and his brother joined their father Ben Sr at Budget Rental Car Sales where they learned first hand the importance of a good work ethic along with stellar customer (people) skills. Ben Sr was instrumental in instilling a sense of pride in his sons with completing a job well done.

Doug’s final career destination was when he and Ben Junior joined the Savannah Police Department in January 1988. He dedicated 35 years to the Savannah PD and the Savannah community. While on the police force Doug worked in several divisions: patrol, homicide, juvenile crimes, sex crimes, and aggravated assault. He also served as a Public Housing Officer and DARE Officer in support of the Chatham County School System. His last assignments included Savannah Impact and the Police Athletic League.

Doug loved football, food, video games along with spending time with his family and friends. He had the ability to bring light to any situation with just a smile. He enjoyed making others laugh with his special sense of humor and good natured chuckles. Doug will be remembered as a hardworking and genuine man full of life. Doug was a member of Kingdom Life Christian Fellowship Church.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences. Me and my family to the Herron.Twin and other extended family members. I went to school with both twins from Elementary to Middleton School, twin as I called him but both twins were outstanding, smart and very funny, and did everything together, if you see one the other twin is not to far behind i know to lose a loved one is so very hard as it is but to lose the. Other half of you, and identical twin is 2x as hard, and I'm gone really miss him. but when I see the other twin I'm gone say, his twin walking with him yes right by his side in spirit. I will never forget the fun times we had in school laughing and talking and making jokes, and checking each other. I will always be reminiscing about those good times when I feel like I'm gone shed tears it will automatically turn in to a smile. Again Mr. Herron will truly be missed May God bless his soul the memories of you will forever live in our mind and heart.

I was blessed to know Ben Sr and his family when they were employed at Budget car sales. They were hardworking young men with a great attitude and a goal. That goal was to be police officers. So when they asked for me to write a letter of recommendation of course I was happy to do so. I was the office manager at Budget at that time. What a special man from a special family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May God give you strength comfort and peace. In Christian Love Nancy Jacobi
